Golf Swing Hub is written by a recreational golfer who plays three mornings a week and has spent years trying to keep a repeatable swing without aggravating his lower back. We cover swing trainers, alignment sticks, hitting mats for home practice, back braces and foam rollers, and we only write about gear we have actually used on the range, in the garage or on the living-room floor.

Practice and Back Safety

The content on this site describes one golfer's experience and is not medical advice. Back pain has many causes. If you have sharp, radiating or worsening pain, numbness or tingling in your legs, or pain after a fall, stop playing and see a doctor or a licensed physical therapist before using any brace, roller or training aid.

A back brace offers support and a reminder to move carefully. It does not treat or cure any condition, and wearing one too tightly or for long periods can be uncomfortable. Foam rolling should never be done directly on the lower spine, on an injury, or through sharp pain.

Swing trainers and hitting mats carry their own risks. Check that nobody is standing nearby before you swing a training aid or a club, make sure you have overhead and side clearance indoors, use a sturdy net when hitting real balls at home, and never hit off a worn or slipping mat. Warm up before you swing hard, and stop if anything hurts.
